Global regenerative beauty brand Ethique has today launched the Ethique Foundation, a charitable trust to support organizations and individuals addressing environmental and social issues.
Mission Blue and Eden Reforestation Projects are lead partners for the inaugural year. Both organizations focus on protecting and preserving fragile ecosystems in oceans and forests respectively.
Led by legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue works to create global awareness, access, and action for marine protected areas, as well as undertaking regular oceanic expeditions to research these fragile and vital ecosystems. Funding from the Foundation will strengthen Mission Blue’s efforts to remove plastic waste from our oceans. Without action, the amount of plastic waste in oceans is expected to triple by 2040.
Deb Castellana, Director of Strategic Alliances of Mission Blue, says, “Our deepest thanks to Ethique for your support of Mission Blue and our goal of increasing ocean protection. It’s an example we hope other corporations will follow. With your sustainable products and packaging, you demonstrate your commitment to a healthy ocean that supports all life, including ours. We salute Ethique for doing your part to save the blue heart of our planet – the ocean.”
Eden Reforestation Projects works with local communities in nine project nations across the globe to plant, protect and preserve millions of trees every month. Their focus is on community-led reforestation, thereby creating jobs to support them in restoring their local environment and economy long-term. The support of the Ethique Foundation will contribute to upcoming projects two new regions: Ethiopia and the Philippines.
As well as supporting like-minded organizations, the Ethique Foundation’s champion project – the Ethique Fellowship – will also nurture women with scalable ideas that solve the world’s most pressing social and environmental issues. Launching in July, the Fellowship is a year-long program that will provide these individuals with financial, educational and network assistance to support them as they create impactful change.
“When I first started Ethique nine years ago, I was determined that the business would have a formal commitment to charitable giving. From the start people told me it was a terrible idea, a few even laughed. We ignored them – and I’m immensely proud that we have donated more than $2m in value to over 700 organizations working to solve problems related to ocean conservation, equity and equality, rewilding and habitat restoration and animal welfare,” said Ethique Founder and CEO Brianne West.
“It has long been a dream of mine to establish the Ethique Foundation – I passionately believe that businesses can create long-lasting, positive change and as such it is our responsibility to do so. Working alongside philanthropy advisors we realized that the way to have true, lasting impact is to narrow our focus and build deeper, longer-lasting partnerships with fewer organizations. With the launch of the Foundation, we will do just that – and our intention is to donate another $10m by 2026,“ West added.
Since it was founded nine years ago, Ethique has always given 2% of sales to charity – including projects with the Virunga National Park and Coral Vita. Creating the Ethique Foundation, a registered charitable trust which will receive funding from the Ethique business formalizes that commitment to supporting positive change.
Globally renowned for its range of conscious and concentrated hair, face and body bars, Ethique is now found in over 22 countries, in over 6000 retailers and was recently placed at #22 out of 500 in Financial Times High Growth Companies Asia-Pacific, and #1 in the category of home & lifestyle. In June 2021 Ethique was ranked for the fourth year in a row as a ‘best for the world’ B Corp the top 10% of B Corps around the world with a huge score both in community and overall.
