Photo of the Day: Pygmy Seahorse

Pygmy seahorses are one of the most well camouflaged species found in the ocean— large, bulbous tubercles cover this species’ tiny body and match the color and shape of the polyps of the gorgonian coral that they live on.
Did you know: Their camouflage is so effective that the species was not actually discovered until the coral it lives on was being examined in a lab.
These small seahorses are known to occur in coral reefs in the tropical western Pacific around Australia (Queensland), Indonesia, Japan, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.
