Bigeye travellies (Caranx sexfasciatum) spawning aggregation.
In many places, fish spawning aggregations have been overfished and species that form these aggregations have been depleted and, in some cases, driven to extinction. In fact, for many species we do not know how big their populations originally were.
Fortunately, thanks to the protection of species inside marine reserves, we can film, photograph and document populations of many species that are thriving locally in specific areas. A great example of this is this photo, which documents bigeye trevally (Caranx sexfasciatum) displaying extraordinary behaviors during their reproduction season in Cabo Pulmo.
