Today is being called the first-ever “Giving Tuesday.” The idea started in New York City, in an attempt to harness the same collective attention given to Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. Only Giving Tuesday is devoted to giving rather than getting.
Nonprofit organizations are hoping they can use the popularity of this past weekends consumer craze to remind people to give back. While this is the first year of Giving Tuesday, the idea of harnessing the collective attention on giving back is something that seems to be catching on.
