Golf Dulce Hope Spot | Champion Spotlight

Golfo Dulce, one of only four tropical fjords in the world, is a biodiversity-rich ecosystem in southern Costa Rica and a critical nursery for the Critically Endangered scalloped hammerhead shark. Since its designation as a Hope Spot in 2019, efforts led by Misión Tiburón have advanced protection, community engagement, and education to safeguard this vital habitat. Watch the video below to hear how being a part of Mission Blue has helped amplify Misión Tiburón’s work in the region.

“The designation of Golfo Dulce as a Hope Spot has brought international attention to this region, especially to the nursery grounds of the scalloped hammerhead shark, inspiring other coastal areas to take action. These critical habitats face growing threats from pollution, habitat degradation, and overfishing, putting newborn and juvenile sharks at risk.”
